Summer Solstice in San Diego at the Sacred Fire

There is a modern-day primal phenomenon going on right under our urban noses.  If you didn’t go looking for it, you might not find it unless somehow you were “magically“ looking for something unique to experience.  This phenomenon is aligned with Summer Solstice in San Diego. And why you might ask would I want to celebrate Summer Solstice in San Diego anyway? What is the big deal about Summer Solstice?

Before the modernization of the world, we lived in smaller tribal type villages.  We were dependent on each other and being in tune with the cycles of the seasons in order to survive. Our ancestors tracked the solar cycles of the sun to know when to plant and harvest. Because  of the intricate relationship  between humans and nature, each cycle was recognized and celebrated.

The summer solstice is the longest day of the year and a time to recognize growth, expansion and honor the grandeur  of  the light and energy from our sun. In this day and age we have become disconnected from our natural world creating a disastrous combination of distraction  and destruction.  To truly find harmony in our lives we must reconnect with our natural world and recognize the interconnectedness of our existence with the planet.

Celebrating summer solstice in San Diego at Sacred Flame  Solstice Celebration is a marvelous opportunity to reconnect with nature, explore the possibility of a tribal-based community and experience the magic that occurs when living in harmony with the elements.

Our ancestors danced, drummed and sang  around a fire long before there were televisions or computers, that are now taking the place of that glowing light.  We would share our stories and reenact tribal history as the first type of theater. The modern day phenomenon where we create this sacred experience mentioned earlier in this article is called a Sacred Fire Circle where participants also drum, dance and sing songs around a fire. This gathering is held at summer solstice in San Diego, in a somewhat remote location at Madre Grande Monastery in Dulzura, yet only 30 miles east of downtown San Diego.

All ages and genders are welcome to join this wonderful experience. It may feel out of the box for some, for others, it may feel like what you have been missing all along and are coming home to your soul family. What do you have to lose?  Take the leap and join the Sacred Flame  Fire Tribe at Summer Solstice in San Diego this year, 2019.
